Taxonomic history

Originally described as Parnassius cephalus Gr.-Gr. subsp. ares Bryk & Eisner, 1934
Synonymized with Parnassius cephalus cephalus Gr.Gr. by Weiss (1991:2). Treated as a subspecies of Parnassius (Koramius) cephalus Grum-Grshimailo, 1891 by Weiss (1992:58). Treated as a synonym of Parnassius cephalus cephalus Grum-Grshimailo, 1891 by Rose (2002:33).

Remarks

The listing of a 'male holotype' by Eisner (1966:47) could be taken as effective lectotype designation for this taxon.
