Type locality as cited in original description: "from Rupal Valley, Astor and the Farsat Pass leading into Chilas. [...] The Farsat Pass is on a continuation of the Range of Mountains on the south side of the Rupal Valley."

Originally described as Parnassius delphius sp. rileyi Tytler, 1926
Treated as a subspecies of Parnassius delphius (Eversmann, 1843) by Ackery (1975: 88). Treated as a subspecies of Parnassius (Koramius) stenosemus Honrath, 1890 by Weiss (1992: 126).
