Treated as a synonym of Thais hypsipyle Fabr. by Gray (1853: 79). Synonymized with Thais polyxena by Zeller (1855: 235). Treated as a synonym of Thais polyxena Wien. Verz., 1776 by Kirby (1871: 515). Treated as a species of Zerynthia Ochsenheimer, 1816 by Munroe (1961:4 0). Treated as a synonym of Zerynthia (Zerynthia) polyxena ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775) by Hesselbarth et al. (1995: 245).


Permanently invalid as a junior primary homonym of Papilio hypermnestra Linnaeus, 1763. The plates were published later than the book and are present in very few copies.
