Taxonomic history

Originally described as Thais deyrollei Oberthür, 1869
Treated as a species of Thais Fabricius, 1807 by Kirby (1871: 515). Treated as a subspecies of Allancastria cerisyi (Godart, 1822) by Bernardi (1970: 62). Treated as a subspecies of Alancastria [sic!] cerisyi Godard by Eisner (1979: 284). Treated as a species of Allancastria Bryk, 1934 by Hancock (1983: 46). Treated as a species of Zerynthia Ochsenheimer, 1816 (Allancastria Bryk, 1934) by Häuser (1993: 139), and Hesselbarth et al. (1995: 251).


Original description not seen / checked! In the published catalogue of the Papilionidae in his collection, Oberthür (187:) mentions only 1 [m] and 2 [f] specimens from Caucase".
