Originally described as leytensis Murayama, 1978
Treated as a subspecies of Pachliopta phegeus Hopffer, 1866 by Moonen (1984: 49). Treated as a species of Pachliopta Reakirt, [1865] (Pachliopta Reakirt, [1865]) by Fujioka et al. (1997: 176). Treated as a species of Pachliopta by Tsukada & Nishiyama (1982: 276), and by Page & Treadaway (1997: 390). Treated as a species of Pachliopta Reakirt, 1864 by Page & Treadaway (2003: 7).
