Taxonomic history

Originally described as Papilio madyes montebanus Dyar, 1913
Treated as a subspecies of Battus madyes (Doubleday, 1846) by Racheli & Pariset (1992: 88), Tyler et al. (1994: 28), Möhn (2001: 3,4), and Lamas (2004: 90). Treated as a subspecies of Battus (Battuosa) madyes (Doubleday, 1846) by Möhn (1999: 7).
