Taxonomic history

Originally described as Papilio sp. cochabamba Weeks, 1901
Treated as a subspecies of Papilio belus Cramer, 1777 by Rothschild & Jordan (1906: 532). Treated as a subspecies of Battus belus (Cramer, 1777) by Racheli & Pariset (1992: 136), and Lamas (2004: 90). Treated as a subspecies of Battus (Battuosa) belus (Cramer, 1777) by Möhn (1999: 9).
