Originally described as Papilio spec. trapeza Rothschild & Jordan, 1906
Treated as a species of Eurytides Hübner, 1821 (Protesilaus Swainson, 1833) by Munroe (1961: 41). Treated as a species of Graphium Scopoli, 1777 by D'Almeida (1966: 316). Treated as a species of Protesilaus Swainson, [1832] by Hancock (1983: 46). Treated as a species of Protesilaus by Johnson & Matusik (1989: 452). Treated as a species of Mimoides by Racheli & Pariset (1993: 439). Treated as a subspecies of Mimoides xynias (Hewitson, 1875) by Tyler et al. (1994: 30), and Lamas (2004: 90).

Remarks

Previously often listed as a separate species (e.g., Collins & Morris 1985:50, D'Abrera 1981, D'Almeida 1966:316, Hancock 1983, Munroe 1961), but recently regarded as conspecific with M. xynias by Brown (1991), Lamas (pers.com.), and Tyler et al. (1994:30).
