Originally described as Papilio Linnaeus, 1758 helenus Linné, 1758 subsp. biseriatus Rothschild, 1895
Treated as a species of Princeps Hübner, [1807] (Menelaides Hübner, [1819]) by Hancock (1983: 48). Treated as a species of Papilio (Princeps) by Collins & Morris (1985: 98). Generally treated as conspecific with P. helenus (e.g., Bryk 1930, Fujioka et al. 1997, Tsukada & Nishiyama 1982).
