Taxonomic history

Originally described as Papilio sp. plagiatus Aurivillius, 1898
Treated as a species of Papilio Linnaeus, 1758 by Munroe (1961: 44). Treated as a species of Princeps Hübner, [1807] (Druryia Aurivillius, 1881) by Hancock (1983: 48). Treated as a species of Papilio (Princeps) by Collins & Morris (1985: 103). Treated as a species of Papilio Linnaeus, 1758 (Princeps Hübner, [1807]) by Ackery et al. (1995: 156).

Remarks

Possibly invalid as junior primary homonym of Papilio polydorus plagiatus Rothschild, 1895 which might represent an infrasubspecific and thus unavailable name - to be checked! The two specimens in NRMS Stockholm are not types (they were collected in Cameroon in 1905) [A. Steiner, 2005].
