Taxonomic history

Originally described as Papilio species evagoras Gray, [1853]
Treated as a synonym of Papilio ariarathes Esp. by Kirby (1871:523), and listed as "Var. c". Treated as a synonym of Mimoides ariarathes evagorides Brown & Lamas, 1994 by Tyler et al. (1994:31), who also indicated that the name is an invalid homonym.

This name was possibly introduced unintentionally as a Westwood manuscript name. Permanently invalid as a junior primary homonym of Papilio evagoras Donovan, 1805. The name evagorides Brown & Lamas, 1994 has been proposed as an objective replacement name.
