Originally described as Papilio sp. hermes Boullet & Le Cerf, 1912
Treated as a synonym of Papilio hesperus horribilis Butler, 1871 by Gabriel (1945: 151). Treated as a subspecies of Papilio (Princeps) hesperus Westwood, 1845 by Bridges (1988: II.63).
