Taxonomic history

Originally described as Papilio sp. oberthueri Rothschild & Jordan, 1906
Treated [as "oberthuri"] as a species of Eurytides Hübner, 1821 (Protesilaus Swainson, 1833) by Munroe (1961:41). Treated as a species of Protesilaus Swainson, [1832] by Hancock (1983:46). Treated as an interspecific hybrid between Protographium philolaus philolaus (Boisduval, 1836) and Protographium agesilaus neosilaus (Hopffer, 1865) by Tyler et al. (1994:30).

Remarks

Listed as a separate species by Collins & Morris (1985:57), D'Abrera (1981), D'Almeida (1966:296), Hancock (1983), and Munroe (1961); now recognized as an interspecific hybrid between P. agesilaus and P. philolaus (Brown 1991:383, Haugum 1987, Tyler et al.1994).
