Taxonomic history

Originally described as Papilio belus Cramer variety ingenuus Dyar, 1907
Treated as a species of Battus Scopoli, 1777 by Racheli & Pariset (1992: 120), and Lamas (2004: 90). Treated as a species of Battus Scopoli, 1777 (Battuosa Möhn, 1999) by Möhn (1999: 8).

Remarks

Depending on the identity of the type specimen of chalceus Rothschild & Jordan, 1906, ingenuus might represent the valid name for the species, which has already been used by some authors (Llorente-Bousquets et al. 1997, Möhn 1999, Racheli & Pariset 1992).
