Taxonomic history

Originally described as Parnassius species princeps Grum-Grshimailo, 1888
Treated as a hybrid between Parnassius apollonius Eversmann and Parnassius tianschanicus Oberthür by Bryk (1935:721).

Permanently invalid as junior primary homonym of Parnassius charltonius princeps Honrath, 1888. The listing of a "Typus" for this taxon by Bryk (1935: 721) could be taken as effective lectotype designation. For further details on type material and type locality, see Groum-Grshimailo (1890).
