Originally described as Papilio kotzebuea Eschscholtz, 1821
Treated [as "kotzebueae"] as a synonym of Papilio antiphus Fabr. by Gray (1853: 11). Treated as a synonym of Papilio antiphus Fabr., 1793 by Kirby (1871: 535), and listed as "Var. a". Treated as a species of Papilio by Staudinger (1888: 277). Treated [as "kotzebueus"] as a subspecies of Papilio aristolochiae Fabricius, 1775 by Rothschild (1895: 247,250). Treated as a species of Pachliopta by Tsukada & Nishiyama (1982: 266), and Page & Treadaway (1995: 139). Treated as a subspecies of Pachliopta aristolochiae (Fabricius, 1775) by Fujioka et al. (1997: 178). Treated as a species of Pachliopta Reakirt, 1864 by Page & Treadaway (2003: 6).
