Treated [as "alexanor Esper, 1799"] as a species of Papilio Linnaeus, 1758 by Talbot (1939: 191). Treated as a species of Papilio Linnaeus, 1758 by Munroe (1961: 43), Hancock (1983: 48), Lukhtanov & Lukhtanov (1994: 47), Hesselbarth et al. (1995: 296), Tuzov et al. (1997: 150), and Tshikolovets (2003: 80). Treated as a species of Papilio (Papilio) by Collins & Morris (1985: 93). Treated [as "alexanor Esper, 1799"] as a species of Papilio by Moonen (2012: 184).

Remarks

Proposed as replacement name for Papilio polidamas Lezzolo in Prunner, a junior primary homonym: "Es hat ihn bereits Hr. Graf Excoffier de Lezzolo, nach obiger Anzeige, unter dem Nahmen des P. Polidamas beschrieben. Da dieser schon an einen Ausländer vergeben war; so hatte ich eine Aenderung anzugehen, und die vorgesetzte Benennung gewählt." Date after Heppner (1982): text and plate 1800.
